Ready, Reliable, Responsive:

LGH Australia Hits The Ground Running

Cranes & Lifting magazine recently sat down and spoke with Hadley Price, LGH Australia Representative, about the company’s expansion into the Australian market. In this exclusive interview, Hadley reflects on LGH’s global journey from its UK beginnings to its new base in Somersby, shares why Australia was the natural next step for the business and explains how the team is bringing “Ready, Reliable, Responsive” service to some of the country’s most critical industries.

Building on a Global Legacy

Cranes & Lifting: LGH was founded in the UK more than five decades ago and has grown into a global leader in lifting and rigging rental. What does this expansion into Australia represent for the Group?

Hadley Price: LGH has a strong global presence with over 30 locations, including North America, Canada and several European facilities in Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands. Our new facility in Somersby, about an hour north of Sydney, is one of LGH’s most significant expansions in recent years. It allows us to combine international experience with local expertise to support industries right across Australia.

Why Somersby?

Cranes & Lifting: Why was Somersby chosen as the base for LGH Australia?

Hadley Price: Somersby gives us a strong foundation. We’ve got the space, the access and the ability to grow as demand increases. More importantly, it allows us to deliver the fast, reliable turnaround times our customers expect.

Investing in Quality Equipment

Cranes & Lifting: LGH has invested heavily in equipment for the Australian market. Can you tell us more about that?

Hadley Price: From day one, it was essential that we had the right equipment available. We’ve made a multi-million-dollar investment in our fleet, with a mix of specialist hoisting, pulling, jacking, rigging, material handling and safety equipment — from 500kg to 1000t. Our suppliers are well-established premium brands and where possible we’ve also supported local distributors and manufacturers.

Raising the Bar on Safety

Cranes & Lifting: One of the big differentiators you’ve mentioned is LGH’s new in-house test stand. Why is that important?

Hadley Price: Testing and compliance are critical in our industry. By investing in our own test stand at Somersby, we can rigorously test, inspect and certify our equipment in-house. This ensures everything we supply is safe, compliant and ready to use immediately. It’s a big advantage for our customers because it eliminates delays and guarantees confidence.

Supporting Critical Industries

Cranes & Lifting: What industries are you aiming to serve in Australia?

Hadley Price: LGH is the largest organisation devoted exclusively to lifting and rigging equipment rental, so our solutions are relevant across construction, infrastructure, mining, energy, petrochemical, marine and offshore. Australia is experiencing strong investment in infrastructure, construction, and defence — sectors that align perfectly with LGH’s expertise.

Service That Sets LGH Apart

Cranes & Lifting: How important is service in setting LGH apart?

Hadley Price: Service is everything. Customers simply can’t afford downtime. If equipment doesn’t arrive as expected, costs escalate quickly. Our model is built on fast turnaround, quality equipment, and responsive support — making sure our customers can keep projects moving safely and efficiently.

Building the Local Team

Cranes & Lifting: Tell us about the team you’ve built in Australia so far.

Hadley Price: We’ve already grown to a team of ten, each bringing deep industry experience. Training is a priority for us — both in-house and through our suppliers. We’ve also had fantastic support from our global colleagues, including recent visits from our U.S. team in July. That international knowledge share, combined with local experience, is helping us create a culture focused on responsiveness, safety and solutions.

Hitting the Ground Running

Cranes & Lifting: Have you had the chance to prove that approach on a project yet?

Hadley Price: Even before we officially opened, we were approached by Tier 1 contractor John Holland for the Waterloo Integrated Station Development in Sydney. They urgently needed MOD 24 spreader beams for a critical lift the very next day. We delivered — and that’s exactly the kind of speed and reliability LGH is here to provide.

Looking Ahead

Cranes & Lifting: Looking ahead, what excites you most about LGH Australia’s future?

Hadley Price: Reliability is everything in this industry. With LGH’s international backing, our local expertise, and a service-first mindset, we’re positioned to give Australian customers exactly what they need: safe, compliant equipment, delivered when and where they need it. We’re excited to support the growth of critical sectors here by doing what LGH does best.
